90 Mile Beach

The west cost of the northern most part of the North Island of New Zealand is one loooong beach. It is not really 90 miles long, more like 90 kilometres.
Access by car is not easy, only a few paths lead down to it, but once you get there, waouh!!!! what a site. There’s hardly anyone around, and if you do find someone you can just walk, or drive if the tide is right, a few hundred metres and you will be all alone!!! What surprised, given the New Zealand’s very positive attitude towards nature preservation, is that you can drive along it, whether by car or motorbike. There is a sign though warning of the dangers involved especially 2 hours either side of high tide, and that whether in the water or on the beach. I did not stay till sunset, not wanting to drive back to Paihia at night, but it must be quite a sight, seeing the sun set there….

Nobody, c’est sur! Rapelle nous la température de l’eau? On est loin de notre baignade au Tatio!
