The disappearing giants

A walk through the glacial valleys of the Fox glacier
So the weather is not really nice with me these days! Never mind, off I go to check out the Fox and Franz Joseph glaciers.
All glaciers around the world are slowly, or not so slowly in fact, disappearing. This article describes quite well the speed at which they are melting away.
There is a sign as you approach them describing that the only way to get to the glacier itself is by helicopter, hence the never ending stream of flights, when the weather allows, from the villages to the glaciers…
I never managed to get close as the walkway got closed due to rock falls about 15 minutes before I got there! So enjoyed the walk up and down the glacial valley with some spectacular scenery anyway!
Franz Joseph
This time I managed to get all the way to the end of the walk, about 60 minutes all told with the obligatory stops for photos, and laughing at the people walking up in Gucci loafers carrying umbrellas… Some people….. And of course a Kea!
